Meet the Team

WellAmerica is an Occupational Health facility specializing in firefighter health and delivering wellness solutions.

WellAmerica was established in 2001 and services over 30 fire departments and districts as well as other non-firefighting agencies.

Our Staff

Kate Warren, PT, DPT, CSCS

An Arizona native, Kate graduated from the University of Arizona with her Bachelor of Science in Physiological Sciences. She then graduated at the top of her class from the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at University of Southern California, the top ranked Physical Therapy Program in the nation. She participated in the sports of American Kickboxing and bodybuilding at elite levels.  She has 12 years of experience working with public safety professionals and 20 years of physical therapy experience.

Kate specializes in working with Southern Arizona’s first responders through a partnership with Dr. Wayne Peate of WellAmerica. Kate has helped members of almost every Southern Arizona Fire and Law Enforcement agency, as well as Border Patrol and members of the US Military.

She is the founder of Evolve Physical Therapy & Sports Performance and Evolve Tactical Fitness. She has been volunteering her time every year, since 2011, to assist in teaching the multi-departmental Peer Fitness Trainer Certification classes, helping to promote firefighter fitness and prevent injury. She works closely with Peer Fitness Trainers to design workouts for individual fire fighter, recruits and departments to promote firefighter fitness while preventing injury.

Now, as the President of WellAmerica, Inc, she will continue promoting firefighter wellness along with Dr. Wayne Peate and the experienced staff of WellAmerica.

 

WF Peate, MD, MPH

Core strength program for firefighters decreased lost days due to injury by 44%.  First to publish guidelines for MRSA prevention in firefighters.  Investigator FEMA firefighter cancer prevention grant.

Board certified in occupational medicine since 1986. Scholarship student at: MD Dartmouth, MPH Harvard, AB Stanford.

US Army Reserve, Medical Corps (Ret.), Associate Professor Univ. of Arizona. (Ret.) Tucson Native. Governing Board Member Pima JTED (founding chair) which has had over 100,000 high school students graduate with valuable career/job skills, including EMT, MA, CNA, auto technician, web design, building trades, culinary arts, cosmetology and fire science.

Lisa Ritter, PA-C, MMS

WellAmerica since December 2016

Graduate of Syracuse University, B.S. and Midwestern University, Master’s in Medical Science, MMS. Nationally certified as a PA-C since 2007.

Background in gastroenterology, hepatology, orthopedics, neurology and emergency medicine.

Prior to her career in medicine, she was a first responder and worked as a paramedic/firefighter.

Yolanda Gomez, RPT/Phlebotomist/M.T.
Occupational health since 2013
Certified Phlebotomist through American Medical Technologies (AMT).   Trained in GalenMD, audiograms, vision testing, pulmonary function testing, treadmill technician, urinalysis & urine drug testing. B.A.T. certified.

Has been awarded four (4) times with the “Phlebotomist of the Year” for the State of Arizona through AMT and was nominated again in 2014.

Received the National “Distinguished Achievement Award”.

Ilene Yalen MSRD, Dietitian

Masters of Science in Nutrition
Registered Clinical Dietitian since 1994

Experience in weight loss/gain, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, geriatrics, pediatrics, sports nutrition, nutrition for firefighters, eating disorders and research.

Currently specializes in individual nutrition assessments, education and goal setting, group classes, and writing.
